A fire in Parksville Monday afternoon caused extensive damage to a home and no injuries.

Parksville fire department responded to a call around 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 18 to find a home on Foster Place 50 per cent involved with flame, according to Mike Tisdelle, assistant fire chief.

He said it was unclear whether anyone was inside the home, but said he was informed once on scene that everyone was out safe. Firefighters rescued a family pet from the fire.

“We we were able to retrieve the cat and give it back to the homeowner, which made them very happy as the pet is part of the family,” Tisdelle said.

There were two people at home when the fire started and the cause of the fire does not seem suspicious, Tisdelle said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Qualicum Beach Fire and Errington Fire provided assistance.
