Island Health region sees record 34 new COVID-19 cases

There are 196 active cases of COVID-19 in the Island Health region, including 34 reported over the last 24 hours. That number includes 130 in the central island region, an increase of 10 since yesterday, along with 39 in the south and 27 in the north. One additional death was reported in the health region.

There were 967 COVID-19 tests done in the Island Health region in the past 24 hours.

There are 13 people hospitalized with the virus and two in ICU in the Island Health region, according to the B.C. government’s COVID-19 dashboard.

B.C. recorded 519 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours. There are 4,810 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, down 235 since yesterday. That number includes 360 people in hospital and 76 in critical care. There were 12 deaths from COVID-19 over the past 24 hours. The province’s seven day rolling average for new cases is 546.

There was a discrepancy between the provincial and regional numbers today. The B.C. government COVID-19 dashboard shows 34 new cases in the region, while the Island Health dashboard shows 28.
