Nanaimo RCMP is seeking public assistance in locating a man wanted for assault, break-and-enter and obstruction of justice. The charges against 49-year-old Heath Handy originate from an incident that occurred in June 2020, police said.
Police responded to a call on June 4 and found a woman on her front lawn — she told officers Handy, who she had previously dated, had broken into her home and repeatedly assaulted and threatened her over a period of 14 hours, according to RCMP. She told police Handy fled before they arrived.
“The victim was shaken and received some injuries, however they were not sufficient enough for her to be hospitalized. Officers have made numerous attempts to locate Handy but have been unsuccessful,” said Const. Gary O’Brien, media relations officer, in a press release.
Handy is an Indigenous man, 6 ft. 0, 210 lbs. Police said the picture provided is recent.
He has family and friends throughout central Vancouver Island and is known to take harbour from time to time, on his boat named the Flying Vessel, according to O’Brien.
Handy should be considered violent and anyone who may know where he is can call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345 and quote file # 2020-20190.
