A 52-year-old man is dead following a head on collision in Qualicum Beach yesterday, according to RCMP.

The Coombs man was the lone occupant of a truck that collided with an SUV near Jones Street and Rupert Road. The driver of the SUV, a 35-year-old Parksville man, was airlifted to hospital and is in stable condition, according to RCMP.

Police said the initial investigation suggests the SUV driver suddenly left his lane and entered the path of the deceased driver’s vehicle. RCMP said when evidence is processed and reports come in from specialists, such as the RCMP collision analyst, police will look to determine the cause of the accident.

“We would like to thank all those that witnessed this tragedy and stayed to provide statements and accounts to police. If anyone has further evidence that we were not able to speak with, please contact Const. Parish of the Oceanside RCMP at (250) 248-6111,” said Cpl. Jesse Foreman.
