Central Vancouver Island active COVID-19 cases drop by 32

Island Health reported eight new cases of COVID-19 today — there are now 161 active cases in the region. Of these, 44 are in central island, 17 in the north and 41 in the south. There are currently seven people hospitalized in Island Health, five of whom are in critical care, according to the B.C. government COVID-19 dashboard.

Across the province there were 737 new positive tests for the novel coronavirus today, according to a joint statement from Dr. Bonnie Henry, provincial health officer, and Adrian Dix, minister of health. There are now 9,589 active cases in B.C. and 342 people hospitalized, 87 of whom are in intensive care.

There were 11 more COVID-19 related deaths reported today. Three new healthcare outbreaks were reported and one new community outbreak, all in the Lower Mainland. 

“COVID-19 continues to circulate in our communities and the risk to all of us remains high. This is why it is so important to follow the public health orders and to use our layers of protection until the vaccine is available for all of us,” said the statement.

There are currently 12,008 people under active public health monitoring as a result of a confirmed exposure to the virus — 29,598 people have recovered.
