The Regional District of Nanaimo elected Tyler Brown as its head and chief executive officer. At the RDN inaugural meeting of the Board on Nov. 10, directors voted to replace Ian Thorpe as chair and to keep Vanessa Craig as vice-chair.
Director Brown has taken the role of chair. Provincial legislation requires regional districts annually elect a chair and a vice-chair at the first meeting of the Board after Nov. 1.
“It is a privilege and an honour to be elected by my colleagues to serve the RDN Board in governing the affairs of the District,” said Brown. “Decisions regarding public policies, bylaws and key services throughout the region will continue to be sensitive to the priorities and needs of our residents.”
The board, comprised of 19 elected officials representing four municipalities and seven electoral areas, elected their chair and vice-chair by ballot, and the positions will be held for a one-year term.
“I am grateful to my fellow Directors for electing me to another term,” said Craig. “I look forward to continuing to serve all residents in the RDN and to supporting Chair Brown in my capacity as.”
