The Town originally granted conditional land use to a site at 845 Village Way, but council initiated the change to the Island Highway location in response to community input, according to a news release from Luke Sales, director of planning for Qualicum Beach.

“Residents in Eaglecrest have struggled with poor coverage for many years, and the Town has received numerous requests to improve personal safety and emergency preparedness by supporting dependable cellular coverage,” said Mayor Brian Wiese. “We are pleased that Telus has come forward with a solution that addresses this community need.”

The Town said Telus approached council with a request to install a new cell tower to provide reliable coverage to the Eaglecrast and Chartwell neighbourhoods. It provided two different site proposals for the tower.

The town said it abandoned negations on the Village Way site because of community input and concerns about the visual impact of the tower upon entering Qualicum Beach.
