A man was taken to Vancouver General Hospital by air ambulance following a vehicle versus pedestrian collision last night, according to Oceanside RCMP.
Police said the man had significant injuries and was airlifted after being taken by ambulance to Nanaimo General Hospital.
Police and Oceanside Ambulance services were dispatched to Highway 19a, near Bay Avenue around 10:40 pm, after a 26-year-old male was struck and knocked to the ground by a northbound vehicle.
The driver, another 26-year-old male from Parksville, stopped immediately after the collision and provided first-aid and cooperated with police, according to RCMP.
Speed and alcohol were not factors in the collision — an RCMP traffic analyst attended the scene and said darkness, dark coloured clothing and the failure to use a crosswalk were contributing factors in the accident.
The RCMP said they believe they have spoken to all witnesses. However, if there is anyone who has additional information or dash cam footage, please call the Oceanside RCMP at (250) 248-6111.
