Oceanside News is a new source for your Parksville Qualicum Beach and Vancouver Island news. Our team strives to provide breaking news coverage, in addition to in-depth local journalism to our community.
Expect to find feature stories showcasing interesting individuals, stories localizing national and international issues and coverage of topics that have real impact on our readers.
Oceanside News has recently merged with Mid Island Independent news. Mid Island Independent was started by two independent journalists with a passion for local news.
COVID-19 has proven a challenge for local news outlets, but it could not stop our team at Oceanside news from doing what we are passionate about.
Merging Mid Island Independent and Oceanside News will allow our team members to work to their strengths and allow Oceanside to grow as a publication.
Meet Our Editorial Team

Tyler has a background in photography and worked as a professional sports photographer before pursuing journalism full time.
Visual storytelling led him to pursue new ways to tell stories. While a student journalist, he developed a passion for the unheard stories — features that would have never been told if he had not stumble upon them.

Kevin found himself pursuing journalism after obtaining a bachelor’s degree in anthropology, working labour jobs and travelling the world. After meeting in college, their attention to detail created a friendship through hours upon hours of editing each other’s work.
Now our team is excited to take the next step in our storytelling careers and serve our Oceanside community
